Thousands of patients face "a terrible choice" of suffering with a serious or even terminal illness or going to the criminal market for pot, said Andrew Myers, campaign manager for the Arizona Medical Marijuana Policy Project. More than 252,000 voter signatures were collected to put the measure on the ballot — nearly 100,000 more than required.

November will be the fourth time in 14 years Arizona voters will consider the issue.

Voters overwhelmingly approved a medical marijuana law in 1996 and 1998, but wording conflicted with federal law, blocking its enactment. Then in 2002, voters rejected a sweeping initiative that would have decriminalized possession of up to 2 ounces of marijuana for any user and required state police to hand out the drug to seriously ill people.

Back in New Mexico during the late seventies my father used medical marijuana as part of a very limited study of cancer patients receiving chemo therapy. It helped him stay on the chemo and gain weight. He was in our kitchen talking to his brother in law (My uncle) who was very conservative about using Pot as part of his treatment, my uncle made it clear that he thought this was just an excuse to get high and only hippies or druggies would use pot and call it medicine. My dad quit using pot that same day, died eleven months later after chemo was stopped because he had lost over 45% of his body weight (6'5" tall and weighed 140 pounds when we buried him).

I strongly support the medical marijuana legislation and I hope no one else stops using medical marijuana based on the unfounded objections/cruel comments of a relative, loved one or friend.

I am with you Bio Fuel,

Our daughter passed from Leukemia in 2000. When it comes to cancer, the patient should be allowed any and all medications, regardless of what others say.

The damned Chemo kills off good and bad, Pot wouldn't hurt anyone on chemo.

This country needs to get it's head out of it's... You know what and start thinking again.
